On April 12th – 13th the ECU Arbiters’ Council organised the first Certification Course for National Online Arbiters.
25 arbiters attended, from which 5 were IAs, 4 FAs and 16 NAs. The lecturers were the members of the Council, Geert Bailleul, Marco Biagioli, Tania Karali and Jirina Prokopova.
During the Course, the attendants were introduced to the FIDE/ECU Online Chess and Fair Play Regulations (preceded by an overview of the Laws of Chess), to the various online platforms (Tornelo, chess.com and lichess were presented), to Video Conferencing Systems (Zoom) and to means of communication among the arbiters team (Slack).
The greatest part of the second day was dedicated to Hybrid events. The lecturers used the experience from the ECU Youth (September 2020) and analysed the different roles of arbiters and the various stages of the event (setting up the venue, preparation before the round, monitoring the games, problem solving).
The list of 25 arbiters who will receive their certificates in the following days can be found here.
